STORY
A landless farmer in rural Punjab finds life insufferable: in the wake of capitalism he loses his right to a share of the crop as well as the love of the landlord; having no clear lineage, he cannot find a wife. A married woman in the same village falls in love with him bearing the consequences of her liaison. Ironically, when the farmer dies, this married woman wears white, the garb of a widow.
