WHEN
she goes underground, she simply disappears. But
when she comes overground, she’s suddenly
everywhere. Actor Deepti Naval has come out with
her second book of poems, this time in English.
Titled Black wind and Other Stories (MapinLit’Rs250),
this collection follows Naval’s 1982 Hindi
book Lamha Lamha. It comes within weeks of her
paintings appearing at exhibitions in the Capital.
At a recent book-reading session in the city Naval
said: “The first section of the book is
about my impressions of life, and the second about
my experiences in a mental asylum.” She
actually went to one such institution for her
research. Dancer Mallika Sarabhai, one of the
founders of Mapin, tells us that her troupe will
put up a performance based on some of these poems
in Ahmedabad on December 17. Sorry Delhi, we gotta
wait.
